The days were filled with training and each night Stevie came closer to discovering the Orb’s location, but the visions continued to end with the ominous dark clouds. Colton’s comment of, “The location of the Orteh must be identified, and swiftly,” had become his mantra following each meditation. As if that’s gonna help relax me.
After narrowing down the type of landscape and the animals that she had seen in her visions, Jack concluded that it must be on the North American continent. “Sounds like Alaska,” said Jack confidently.
“If we could pull up some pictures on your laptop…” suggested Stevie.
In response, Jack opened up the browser and began surfing the Internet.
Colton expressed frustration over using the machine. “Shylae has the ability to locate the Orteh without this picture box.” He dismissively waved his hand.
“Computer. It’s called a computer, Colton.” Stevie said. “Let me try this. Maybe looking at the pics will help.”
He reluctantly agreed, but chose to read the Din Ashyea rather than joining the teenagers.
At first they had trouble finding good pictures. Nothing looked familiar from the photos of Alaska that Jack was able to pull up. Alyssa suggested looking at British Columbia.
“My folks took me on a cruise up the coastline to Princess Royal Island. See if you can find pictures of that area.”
“Seriously, Lissy. Stevie saw a white bear. That had to be polar bear.”
“If you read something other than sci-fi/fantasy, you would know about the Spirit Bear.” That got everyone’s attention. Even Colton looked up from his book. “It is a variant of the black bear. They’re only on this one island. A black bear will sometimes have a cub that is born white. They’re called Kermode bears.”
“That sounds familiar,” commented Stevie.
They revised their search for images of the Spirit Bear and Princess Royal Island.
“That’s it!” Stevie jumped up so fast her chair flew back and slammed against the wall. “Colton. Come look at this. This is It.”
Colton approached, Din Ashyea held open, and squinted at the screen. “A likely place. But, Shylae, that is a large area. You will need to narrow the exact location or we risk losing time searching.”
“I know. I know.” Stevie refused to let his pragmatism dampen her enthusiasm.
“Do not despair, Shylae. I believe I have located a way to help guide you in the search.”
Colton began to read a passage from his book, translating to English as he read. “Help from an eagle will guide the seer in his search.”
“What does that mean, exactly?”
“The translation is difficult, but the meaning is that I may be able to join you in your vision.” One hand holding the book, the other extended to Stevie, Colton continued. “Come. Sit with me. I will help you see.”
Stevie rose and followed him down the two steps to the living room. He held her hands and together they sat on the floor, facing each other.
“I need silence for this to work. Alyssa, would you be so kind as to bring us a candle and the bundle of
